Some 1987 models equipped with 3.8L SFI engines (VIN Codes 3) may experience one or more of the following conditions:
Engine will not stay running on the initial start when the engine is cold (with proper fuel pressure and no leak down).
Engine intermittently won't stay running on decel under closed throttle conditions (with proper scanner readings and minimum air rate).
An intermittent "Service Engine Soon" light with a stored false code 32 on AB, HB, and CB, or a false code E032 on EB.
If any of these conditions are experienced on a vehicle when the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, and cannot be repaired by using currently published service and diagnostic procesures, it may be necessary to install a new service PROM.
These PROM's are currently available through General Motors Parts Operation under the following part numbers:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
