1) Correct fluid level checking and indicator location for a 1987 MG282 manual transaxle.
2) Update for the 1987 Preliminary Chevrolet J and L Car Service Manual procedure regarding fluid level checking and location of the indicator for a MG282 manual transaxle.
There may be instances when technicians are replacing the fill tube plug (part number 10046677) with a fluid level indicator (part number 14084147) that goes into similar transaxles (See Figure 1). An overfill condition can result along with hard shifting effort if this wrong indicator is installed (see Figure 2). The MG282 already has a fluid level indicator that screws into the case that will show the required fluid level (see Figure 4).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
