Harsh shifts in a 1987 2.8 litre fuel-injected Standard Pontiac 6000 or Pontiac 6000 L/E may be caused by the installation of a 7CBH model transaxle (instead of a 7CAH model transaxle) at the vehicle assembly plant. (Refer to Figure 1).
DATE OF CHANGE:
1987 vehicles built prior to December 1, 1986 may be equipped with a 7CBH transaxlie which is calibrated for firmer shifts and used in the SE and STE models only.
After verifying the vehicle and engine application as described above, replace the 7CBH model transaxle with a 7CAH model transaxle.
SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:
A 1987 THM 440-T4 Transaxle Assembly, 7CAH model, is available from General Motors Service Parts by ordering part #8662023 (7CAH).
SERVICE MANUAL REFERENCE:
Refer to the appropriate 1987 Service Manual On-Car Service Section (Section 7Al), for transaxle replacement information.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
