HARSH SHIFT-POSSIBLE INCORRECT TRANS. INSTALLED AT FACTORY

Harsh shifts in a 1987 2.8 litre fuel-injected Standard Pontiac 6000 or Pontiac 6000 L/E may be caused by the installation of a 7CBH model transaxle (instead of a 7CAH model transaxle) at the vehicle assembly plant. (Refer to Figure 1).

DATE OF CHANGE:

1987 vehicles built prior to December 1, 1986 may be equipped with a 7CBH transaxlie which is calibrated for firmer shifts and used in the SE and STE models only.

SERVICE ACTION:

After verifying the vehicle and engine application as described above, replace the 7CBH model transaxle with a 7CAH model transaxle.

SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:

A 1987 THM 440-T4 Transaxle Assembly, 7CAH model, is available from General Motors Service Parts by ordering part #8662023 (7CAH).
