TEMP. GAUGE 'PEGGED COLD' REPLACE TEMP SWITCH

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987 CENTURYS WITH LG3 ENGINE (VIN CODE 3) BUILT AT TARRYTOWN (PLANT CODE T) BELOW VIN HT403081

Some 1987 LG3 equipped Centurys with instrument gauge options UJ5 and UJ9 may experience a condition whereby the temperature gauge remains "pegged cold" during normal operation. If the vehicle should happen to overheat, the gauge on the affected vehicles will "peg hot". Therefore, the gauge will either "peg cold" or "peg hot" with no in-between readings.

To correct this condition, the temperature switch on the engine must be removed and replaced with a temperature sensor, Part No. 8993146, available from GM Parts (See Illustration).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
