A power antenna mast that has been bent or broken may be repaired using a replacement mast rather than replacing the entire power antenna assembly. A broken drive cable condition may also be repaired with a replaceable mast, but removal of the complete antenna assembly may be required to ensure all pieces of the drive cable have been removed.
Replacement mast Part Number 22535395 for Regal and Somerset/Skylark is currently available from GMSPO.
1. Remove the mast retaining nut with the wrench supplied with the service kit.
2. Turn the radio on to activate the antenna to the up position and remove the mast assembly.
a. Do not manually pull the mast.
b. Antenna mast contact spring located on the bottom mast section will be reused. Clean the spring with contact cleaner and set aside for later use.
3. Insert new mast and cable assembly into antenna housing, beginning with the cable.
a. Insert the drive cable into the housing and stop when resistance is felt. (Approximately 12").
b. Cycle the antenna down until cable retracts into the housing. If cable does not retract, rotate cable until the gear catches cable and begins to retract it.
4. Insert mast section into the antenna housing while the cable is retracting and reinstall the contact spring onto the mast. Make certain the flanged end of the contact spring faces upward.
5. Reinstall and tighten the antenna retaining nut.
6. Cycle the antenna several times to ensure proper operation.
