Some 1988-89 Centurys with 2.8L V6 engines may exhibit a power steering shudder condition. This condition is apparent during low speed turning maneuvers and would be perceived as a vibration felt in the steering wheel.
Vehicles exhibiting this condition may be repaired by replacing existing power steering outlet hose and pipe assembly with new assembly, part number 26017135, with internal tuning cable.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
1. Raise vehicle
2. Disconnect return hose and pipe assembly at cooler and drain fluid.
3. Disconnect return hose and pipe assembly at gear, utilizing a 18 mm crows foot wrench. Remove from housing clip, and discard hose and pipe assembly.
4. Install new hose and pipe assembly, part number 26017135 into housing clip and connect at gear.
5. Torque fitting to 25 N.m.
6. Connect hose to cooler pipe and torque clamps to 1.7 N.m.
7. Lower car.
8. Fill with fluid and bleed power steering system following applicable shop manual procedure (Section 3B3).
9. Check for leaks, correct as required and bleed system.
