MANUAL UPDATE-SEC. 6A SERPENT. BELT TENSIONER SERVICE PROC.

1988-89 CENTURYS WITH 2.5L ENGINE (VIN CODE R)

When servicing the serpentine belt tensioner, use the following procedures:

Remove or Disconnect

1. Drain coolant, refer to (Section 6B) of the Service Manual.

2. Drive belt.

3. Bolts securing power steering pump to tensioner assembly. Position power steering pump aside.

4. Tensioner to engine attaching bolts.

5. Tensioner

Clean

- Sealing surfaces of tensioner and block, including the Liquid Injected Material (LIM) ring. DO NOT damage or remove seal.

- If there is damage to LIM seal to where it won't seal, or the seal is missing, replace the tensioner.

Install or Connect

1. Position tensioner on engine block.

2. Tensioner to engine attaching bolts. Tighten bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb. ft.)

3. Power steering pump to tensioner assembly. Tighten Bolt to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.)

4. Serpentine drive belt.

5. Fill coolant system, refer to (Section 6B) of the Service Manual.
