TAIL LAMP APPLIQUE SURFACE OXIDATION &/OR PEELING

SUBJECT: TAIL LAMP APPLIQUE SURFACE OXIDATION AND/OR PEELING (INSTALL NEW REPLACEMENT APPLIQUE)

MODELS: 1994-96 BUICK CENTURY (SEDANS ONLY)

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE APPLIQUE (BLACK AND SILVER METAL STRIP) ON EITHER SIDE OF THE REAR TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY HAS SURFACE OXIDATION AND/OR IS PEELING. SEE FIGURE 1.

CORRECTION:

NEW SERVICE REPLACEMENT APPLIQUE(S) ARE NOW AVAILABLE. IT IS NO LONGER NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE TAIL LAMP LENS TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION.

INSTALL NEW APPLIQUE(S) USING THE FOLLOWING SERVICE PROCEDURE.

IMPORTANT:

VEHICLE TAIL LAMP LENS, NEW APPLIQUE(S) AND WORK AREA ARE TO BE ABOVE 20 DEGREES C (70 DEGREES F) WHEN PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE.

1. REMOVE OLD APPLIQUE(S) BY APPLYING HEAT WITH A HEAT GUN HELD 152 MM (6 IN.) AWAY FROM THE APPLIQUE/LENS SURFACE. APPLY HEAT USING A CIRCULAR MOTION FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. GRADUALLY PULL THE APPLIQUE AWAY FROM THE TAIL LAMP LENS.

2. REMOVE ANY REMAINING ADHESIVE FROM THE TAIL LAMP LENS AND CLEAN SURFACE WITH MILD SOAP AND WATER.

3. PEEL THE TAPE BACKING MATERIAL OFF THE BACKSIDE OF THE NEW APPLIQUE.

4. BEGIN APPLYING THE NEW APPLIQUE TO THE OUTBOARD END OF THE TAIL LAMP LENS FIRST. WORKING TOWARDS THE OPPOSITE END, CONTINUE APPLYING THE APPLIQUE UNTIL COMPLETE CONTACT IS MADE.

5. ONCE COMPLETE CONTACT IS MADE, APPLY LIGHT TO MEDIUM PRESSURE ACROSS THE COMPLETE SURFACE OF THE APPLIQUE.
