Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 24420-C Crankshaft Balancer Remover

    Notice: The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct installation procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the crankshaft balancer.

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably. Refer to General Information.
  3. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.

  5. Object Number: 105890  Size: SH
  6. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and the washer.

  7. Object Number: 96018  Size: SH
  8. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Use J 24420-C .

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 29113 Crankshaft Balancer Installer

  1. Apply sealant to the keyway of the balancer. Use GM sealant P/N 12345739 or equivalent.

  2. Object Number: 96019  Size: SH
  3. Install the crankshaft balancer. Use J 29113 .
  4. Remove J 29113

  5. Object Number: 105890  Size: SH
  6. Install the crankshaft balancer washer and the bolt.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 103 N·m (76 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.
  9. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
