Installation Procedure
NOTICE: When adding coolant, it is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL®
or HAVOLINE® DEX-COOL® coolant. If Coolant other than DEX-COOL®
or HAVOLINE® DEX-COOL® is added to the system the engine coolant will
require change sooner; at 50 000 km (30,000 mi)
or 24 months.
- Install the gasket and water pump.
- Install the bolts to the water pump using J 36660-A
.
Tighten
• | Tighten the long bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft)
plus 40 degrees |
• | Tighten the short bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft)
plus 80 degrees. |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the water pump pulley, do not tighten the bolts.
- Install the power steering pump with mounting bolts. Refer to
Power Steering Gear Pump Pulley Replacement in Power Steering Gear & Pump.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
.
- Tighten the water pump pulley bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 13 N·m(115 lb in)
- Install the accessory electrical junction block in place.
- Refill the engine coolant, refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
Inspect for leaks.
