Check for a blockage in the coolant passages.

Flush the cooling system or flow check the radiator. Refer to Flushing .

Check to see if the incorrect type of thermostat was installed, or if the thermostat is stuck (or sticks) in the open position. Refer to Thermostat Diagnosis .

Replace the thermostat.

  1. On the 3100 engine, refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement .
  2. On the 3.4L engine, refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement .
  3. On the 3800 (L36) engine, refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement .

Does the engine still reach normal operating temperature?
