Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
    • J 28467-90 Engine Support Adapter
    • J 36462 Support Adapter Leg Set
  1. Install the J 28467-A .
  2. Install the J 28467-90 .
  3. Install the J 36462 .
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to

    Caution: To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle at the opposite end from which components are being removed. This will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling off the hoist.

  5. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  6. Remove the power steering rack and pinion and hang the power steering rack and pinion from the exhaust pipe. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  7. Remove the transaxle mount lower bolts. Refer to .
  8. Remove the engine mount lower bolts. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
  9. Remove the power steering lines from the right side of the frame. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  10. Support the rear of the frame with a jackstand.
  11. Loosen the front frame bolts. Refer to Body Dimensions, Frame and Underbody.
  12. Adjust the jackstand to lower the rear of the frame.
  13. Position a drain pan under the forward servo cover.

  15. Remove the bolts and/or screws attaching the servo cover to the transaxle case.
  16. Remove the forward servo cover.
  17. Remove the forward servo cover O-ring.
  18. Remove the servo piston assembly.
  19. Remove the servo spring.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 164776  Size: SH
  1. Install the servo spring.
  2. Install the servo piston assembly.
  3. Install the forward servo cover O-ring.
  4. Install the forward servo cover.
  5. Install the forward servo cover attaching bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the forward servo cover attaching bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in). Refer to

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Remove the drain pan from under the forward servo cover.
  8. Adjust the jackstand to raise the rear of the frame.
  9. Install the frame bolts. Refer to Body Dimensions, Frame and Underbody.
  10. Remove the support from the rear of the frame.
  11. Install the power steering lines to the right side of the frame. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  12. Install the engine mount lower bolts. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
  13. Install the transaxle mount lower bolts. Refer to .
  14. Install the power steering rack and pinion. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  15. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Remove the J 36462 .
  18. Remove the J 28467-90 .
  19. Remove the J 28467-A .
