Front Wheel Drive Shaft Seal Replacement Left
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Caution: To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide
additional support for the vehicle at the opposite end from which components
are being removed. This will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling
off the hoist.

- Remove the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the left engine splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.
- Remove the left stabilizer shaft link from the left
lower control arm. Refer to Front Suspension.
- Remove the left tie rod end from the left steering knuckle. Refer
to Power Steering Gear Unit Repair.
- Remove the left lower ball joint from the left steering knuckle.
Refer to Front Suspension.
- Remove the left drive axle from the transaxle. Refer to Drive
Axle.
- Secure the left drive axle to the left steering knuckle and strut.
- Use a screwdriver or other suitable tool
to pry out the seal. Do NOT damage the seal bore.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required
• | J 34115 Left Side Axle Seal
Installer |
- Use a light wipe of transaxle fluid to lubricate the seal lip.
- Use the J 34115
to install a new seal.
- Install the J 37292-B
in the
seal.
Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do NOT allow the shaft
splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface or damage to the seal
will occur.
- Install the drive axle to the transaxle. Refer to Drive Axle.
- Remove the J 37292-B
.
- Install the left lower ball joint to the left steering knuckle.
Refer to Front Suspension.
- Install the left tie rod end to the left steering knuckle. Refer
to Power Steering Gear Unit Repair.
- Install the left stabilizer shaft link to the left lower control
arm. Refer to Front Suspension.
- Install the left engine splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.
- Install the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the fluid level.
- Inspect for proper completion of the repairs.
- Inspect for proper fluid level.
- Inspect for fluid leaks.

- Install the J 37292-B

- Adjust the fluid level.

- Inspect for fluid leaks.
