Important: Use J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit when a diagnostic procedure requires inspecting or probing a terminal.

Use of the adapter prevents damage to the terminal. Use of the adapter also indicates if the contact tension is sufficient. If the contact tension seems incorrect, refer to Checking Terminal Contact.

Inspect the vehicle for the theft deterrent option.

Is the vehicle equipped with the theft deterrent option?

Inspect the vehicle for Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs.

Are any DTCs present?

Remove the horn relay.

Do the horns stop sounding?

Using a test light, connect between the horn relay terminals circuit 740 and circuit 28.

Is the test light on?

  1. Leave the test light in the same location.
  2. Disconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) connector C1 terminal C6.

Is the test light on?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect connector C201.
  2. Using a test light, connect between the horn relay terminals circuit 740 and circuit 28.

Is the test light on?

--

Go to Step 10

Replace the horn relay. Refer to Horn Relay Replacement for service procedure.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement for service procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration for service procedure.

Repair short to ground in circuit 28 between the BCM and the underhood accessory wiring junction block or between the underhood accessory wiring junction block and connector C201 terminal A17.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System for service procedure.
  2. Remove the horn switch from the steering wheel.
  3. Disconnect the spring loaded terminal of the horn switch leading to connector C201 terminal A17 leaving the switch ground connected.
  4. Using a test light, connect between B+ and the spring loaded terminal leading toward connector C201 terminal A17.

Is the test light on?

Repair short to ground in circuit 28 between the horn switch and connector C201 terminal A17.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the horn switch. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement for service procedure.

Disconnect the underhood accessory wiring junction block connector C3 terminal C8.

Replace the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Refer to Accessory Wiring Junction Block Replacement for service procedure.

Repair short to B+ in circuit 29 between the horn connector and the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
