Tech - Cupholder May Separate from Armrest (Replace Cupholder)

Some customers may comment that the cupholder may come loose from the folding armrest and cannot be reinstalled. The cupholder in the rear seat of the Century Limited may also be affected.

The hinge pins on the cupholder may crack when incorrectly storing the cupholder and then closing the armrest lid. Additionally, some cupholder hinge pins may not seat properly to the armrest retaining holes, causing the assembly to come loose when deploying.

Replace the cupholder assembly.

Front Cupholder

Use the following procedure to replace the front cupholder.

Important: This bulletin is only intended to correct vehicles equipped with split bench seats. Impala models equipped with consoles are not affected by this bulletin.

1. Open the armrest lid.

2. Squeeze the mounting bracket of the cupholder assembly together to disengage the pins from the armrest storage box sides and remove the cupholder assembly.
3. Slightly squeeze the mounting bracket of the new cupholder assembly and insert pins into the mounting holes.

Rear Cupholder (Century Limited Only)

Use the following procedure to replace the rear cupholder:

1. Open the armrest lid.

2. Remove the cupholder by grasping the mount near the attachment point in the floor of the armrest storage box. With a twisting motion force the left side mounting pin rearward through a formed slot in the bottom of the box. This action will release the cupholder assembly.
3. Install the replacement cupholder assembly by inserting the right side pin into the hole in the storage box, then slide the left side pin forward through the formed slot until positive engagement is felt.
