Circuit Description

This diagnostic test checks for unusually high throttle angle and low vehicle speed when the transmission is in Drive or Reverse. The primary purpose of this DTC is to record the Failure Record Data, because this condition could damage the powertrain or create an unsafe condition.

If the PCM detects an unusually high throttle angle and low vehicle speed when the transmission is in a drive range, then DTC P1814 sets.

DTC P1814 is a Type D DTC.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • No TP DTCs P0121, P0122, or P0123.
    • No VSS DTCs P0502 or P0503.
    • The vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h (7 mph).
    • System voltage is 10-18 volts.
    • The transmission range is not Park or Neutral.
    • The throttle angle is 70 percent or greater.
    • These conditions must occur for 12 seconds.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC P1814 will set if TCC slip speed is greater than 2200 RPM for 12 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The PCM does not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A scan tool clears the DTC from PCM history.
    • The PCM clears the DTC from the PCM history if the vehicle completes 40 consecutive warm-up cycles without a non-emission related diagnostic fault occurring.
    • The PCM cancels the DTC default actions when the fault no longer exists and the ignition is OFF long enough in order to power down the PCM.

Diagnostic Aids

A high throttle angle with the brakes applied (stall test) may cause DTC P1814 to set.
