Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Did the instrument cluster brake indicator lamp light?

Go to Step 3

Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with engine OFF.
  2. Engage the parking brake.

Does the brake warning lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. With the parking brake still engaged, use a scan tool in order to monitor the park brake switch in the BCM Inputs data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the park brake switch is active?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step  5

Inspect circuit 1830 for an open or high resistance.

Did you find and correct the condition?

System OK

Go to Step 6

Replace park brake indicator switch.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Using a scan tool, establish communication with the instrument panel cluster.

Can communication be established with the instrument panel cluster?

  1. Ensure that the parking brake disengaged.
  2. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch.
  3. Connect a 3A fused jumper wire between the brake fluid level indicator harness connector B and ground.

Does the brake warning indicator lamp light?

Go to Step 9

Jumper a 3A fused jumper wire between the brake fluid level indicator harness connector A and B.

Does the brake warning indicator lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Replace the brake fluid level indicator switch.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Repair the open or high resistance in circuit 1550.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Inspect circuit 209 for an open or high resistance.

Was there a open or high resistance on circuit 209?

Go to Step 13

Repair the open or high resistance in circuit 209.
