J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 177170  Size: SH
  1. Remove the left side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  2. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Pull back the carpet for access.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Loosen the park brake cable and the equalizer (2).
  6. Disconnect the front cable from the rear cable at the connector clip.
  7. Remove the front cable from the connector clip.

  9. Use J 37043 in order to remove the front cable clip from the underbody bracket.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  12. Disconnect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.

  13. Object Number: 179640  Size: SH
  14. Remove the three lever nuts from the body mounting studs.
  15. Remove the park brake pedal with the parking brake cable.

  16. Object Number: 177096  Size: SH
  17. Remove the cable button end from the lever clevis.
  18. Use J 37043 in order to remove the cable from the park brake pedal.
  19. Remove the park brake switch, if being replaced.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 177096  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake switch, if removed.
  2. Install the cable to the park brake pedal.
  3. Install the cable end to the lever clevis.

  4. Object Number: 179640  Size: SH
  5. Install the park brake pedal.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the three park brake pedal to body mounting nuts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten park brake pedal mounting nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Connect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.
  10. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  11. Feed the cable through the underbody and clip the cable into the under body bracket.
  12. Position the carpet in place.
  13. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  14. Install the driver's side insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  15. Object Number: 177170  Size: SH
  16. Install the front cable into the connector clip.
  17. Tighten the park brake cable at the equalizer (2).
  18. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  19. Lower the vehicle.
