Parking Brake Cable Replacement Front
Removal Procedure
Tools Required

Park Brake Cable Release Tool
Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
Remove the park brake cable at the equalizer.
Lower the vehicle; leave the vehicle on the hoist.
Remove the left side instrument panel insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
Remove the left side carpet retainers. Refer to
Front Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior Trim.
Remove the lower center pillar trim panel on the left side. Refer to
Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior trim.
Fold back the carpeting in order to gain access to the park brake cable.
Remove the park brake cable (1) from the hold down clips (2).
Remove the cable button end from the park brake lever clevis.
Remove the cable from the park brake lever using the
J 37043
.
Remove the front cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Install the front cable into the vehicle.
Connect the cable to the park brake lever.
Install the cable button in the lever clevis.
Install the park brake cable (1) into the hold down clips (2).
Position the carpeting properly.
Install the left side lower center pillar trim panel. Refer to
Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior trim.
Install the left side carpet retainers. Refer to
Front Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior Trim.
Install the left side instrument panel insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
Raise the vehicle.
Install the cable end to the equalizer (2).
Tighten the nut on the equalizer (2) in order to remove the slack in the cable.
Adjust the park brake. Refer to
Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment
.
Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure
Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
Loosen the brake cable at the equalizer (2).
Remove the cable from the mounting bracket.
Remove the cable from the actuator lever, if equipped with disc brakes.
Remove the cable from the park brake lever, if equipped with drum brakes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
Remove cable from the support bracket (with disc brakes), or the backing plate (with drum brakes) using
J 37043
.
Remove the park brake cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Place the cable in position.
Install the cable to the support bracket (with disc brakes), or the backing plate (with drum brakes).
Install the cable to the actuator lever, if equipped with disc brakes.
Install the cable to the park brake lever, if equipped with drum brakes. Refer to
Brake Shoe Replacement
in Drum Brakes.
Install the cable on the mounting bracket.
Tighten the nut on the equalizer (2) in order to remove the slack in the cable.
Adjust the park brake. Refer to

.
Lower the vehicle.
