Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in 3.1L Engine Controls or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in 3.8L Engine Controls.
  3. Remove the cross vehicle brace if equipped. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Front End.

  4. Object Number: 379823  Size: SH
  5. Remove the suction hose nut (3) at the accumulator.

  6. Object Number: 379817  Size: SH
  7. Position the suction hose aside from the accumulator.

  8. Object Number: 369028  Size: SH
  9. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (2) from the accumulator.

  10. Object Number: 369032  Size: SH
  11. Position the A/C compressor hose aside from the accumulator.

  12. Object Number: 379838  Size: SH
  13. Remove the accumulator bracket bolt.

  14. Object Number: 379841  Size: SH
  15. Remove the accumulator.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 379841  Size: SH
  1. Install the accumulator.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the accumulator bracket bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt to 4 N·m (36 lb in).

    Important: Lubricate the new O-ring seals and seal washers with a mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  5. Install the new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the suction hose. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 379817  Size: SH
  7. Install the suction hose onto the accumulator

  8. Object Number: 379823  Size: SH
  9. The suction hose nut (3) to the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the suction hose nut to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  11. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.

  12. Object Number: 369028  Size: SH
  13. Install the A/C compressor hose nut (2) onto the accumulator.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Install the cross vehicle brace if equipped . Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  16. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in 3.1L Engine Controls or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in 3.8L Engine Controls.
  17. Evacuate and charge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  18. Leak test the filling(s) of the repaired or reinstalled component using J 39400 .
