Removal Procedure

    Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

    Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  4. Disconnect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
  5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.

  7. Remove the fuel filter and mounting bracket.
  8. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 699548  Size: SH

    Important: There is not a service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace the fuel filter if it is restricted.

  1. Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
  2. Slide the fuel filter into the fuel filter mounting bracket.
  3. Install the fuel filter and mounting bracket.

  5. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  6. Connect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
  7. Tighten
    Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the fuel filter from turning. Tighten the fuel filter outlet nut to 30 N·m (22  lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket retaining bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft)

  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  12. Inspect the fuel system for leaks by performing the following steps:
  13. 9.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    9.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    9.3. Turn ON the ignition.
    9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
