Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

1. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.



2. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the wiring harness clip or strap.



3. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector lever.



4. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.



5. If equipped with floor console shift control.
6. Remove the Front Floor Console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
7. Pull the carpet back to expose the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
8. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from retaining clips or retainers in the passenger compartment.
9. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer from the console shift control.



10. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control.



11. If equipped with a steering column shift control.
12. Remove the Knee Bolster bracket. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
13. Remove the Steering Column Trim Covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column -- Tilt.
14. Remove the automatic transmission range selector cable from the shift control lever.



15. Remove the automatic transmission range selector cable through the hole in the dash.

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

1. Install the automatic transmission range selector cable through the hole in the dash.



2. If equipped with a floor console shift control.
3. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the console shift control bracket.
4. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the console shift control.



5. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer to the console shift control.
6. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to retaining clips or retainers in the passenger compartment.
7. Install the carpet into position. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
8. Install the Front Floor Console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.



9. If equipped with a steering column shift control.
10. Install the automatic transmission range selector cable to the shift control lever.
11. Install the Knee Bolster bracket. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
12. Install the steering column filler panel. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column -- Tilt.



13. Properly route and position the automatic transmission range selector cable.



14. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.



15. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the automatic transaxle range selector lever.



16. Place the transaxle in the Neutral position.
17. Place the shift control in the Neutral position.
18. Connect each cable section to the following before connecting the two cable sections:

•	Insert the metal end fitting of the shift control cable into the transaxle cable end.

•	Use the molded end fittings to push the metal end fitting of the shift control cable and the transaxle cable end together until the metal post snaps into place.




19. Depress the adjuster clip once. This mobilizes the adjuster housing toward the transaxle end fitting.
20. Line up the end fittings so they slide together until you feel the parts cam together and lock.



21. Depress the adjuster clip completely. This locks the cable into its adjusted service position.
22. Pull the conduit in the opposite direction to assure full system adjustment of the shift cable.




Important: The horseshoe clip with the tab is flush when fully engaged.

23. Ensure the conduit is fully engaged.



24. The horseshoe clip with the tab is not flush when not fully engaged.
25. Install the shift cable retainer and the wiring harness clip or the wiring harness strap.
26. Adjust the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .
27. Install the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls -- 3.8L.
