J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the left and the right engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  4. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts, reposition and secure the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  7. Remove the 3-way catalytic converter pipe from the right exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  8. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

  10. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  11. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Remove the transaxle brace from the oil pan. Refer to Transmission Brace Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.
  13. Loosen the transaxle mount lower nuts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.
  14. Remove the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Use the engine support fixture to raise the engine.
  17. Raise the vehicle.
  18. Remove the steering shaft intermediate pinch bolt. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  19. Remove the engine mount bracket with the engine mount from the oil pan. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
  20. Remove the right lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
  21. Remove the right outer tie rod from the steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.
  22. Install jackstands to the frame assembly.
  23. Remove the right side frame bolts.
  24. Loosen the left side frame bolts.
  25. Using the jackstands lower the right side of the frame.

  27. Use the J 39505 in order to remove the right oil pan side bolts.

  28. Object Number: 105914  Size: SH
  29. Remove the left oil pan side bolts.

  30. Object Number: 105918  Size: MH
  31. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  32. Remove the oil pan.
  33. Remove the oil pan gasket.
  34. Clean the oil pan and the engine block gasket mating surface.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 61840  Size: SH
  1. Apply sealant GM P/N 1052942 (Canadian P/N 10953466) at the rear main bearing cap and the engine block (1).
  2. Install the oil pan gasket.

  3. Object Number: 105918  Size: MH
  4. Install the oil pan.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the oil pan bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the left oil pan side bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Use the J 39505 in order to install the right oil pan side bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  12. Use the jackstands to raise the frame to the original position
  13. Install the right side frame bolts and tighten the left side frame bolts. Refer to Frame Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  14. Remove the jackstands from the frame assembly.
  15. Install the right lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
  16. Install the right outer tie rod to the steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.
  17. Install the engine mount bracket with the engine mount to the oil pan. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
  18. Install the steering shaft intermediate pinch bolt. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Use the engine support fixture to lower the engine.
  21. Raise and the vehicle.
  22. Install the transaxle mount lower nuts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.
  23. Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  24. Install the transaxle brace to the oil pan. Refer to Transmission Brace Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.
  25. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  26. Object Number: 54406  Size: SH
  27. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  28. Install the 3-way catalytic converter pipe to the right exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  29. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  30. Lower the vehicle.
  31. Remove the engine support fixture.
  32. Install the left and the right engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  33. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  34. Fill the engine with new engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  35. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  36. Inspect for leaks.
