Removal Procedure
Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in
order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open
pipes and passages.
Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter.

- Remove the threaded nut fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
- Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
- Remove the fuel filter mounting bracket
bolt.
- Remove the fuel filter and the mounting bracket.
- Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter mounting bracket.
Installation Procedure
Important: There is not a service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace the
fuel filter if the filter is restricted.
- Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
- Install the fuel filter to the fuel filter mounting bracket.
- Install the fuel filter and the mounting bracket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Connect the quick-connect fitting at the
inlet of the fuel filter. Refer to
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
.
- Install the threaded nut fitting to the outlet of the fuel filter.
Tighten
Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the fuel filter from turning. Tighten
the fuel feed pipe fitting nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Inspect the fuel system for leaks by performing the following steps:
9.1. | Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds. |
9.2. | Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds. |
9.3. | Turn ON the ignition. |
9.4. | Inspect for fuel leaks. |
