Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.1L

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
2. Remove the left front fender upper diagonal brace. Refer to Front Fender Upper Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L.



4. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (1).
5. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the condenser.



6. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (2).
7. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
8. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.



9. Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly bolt from the A/C compressor.

Important: Remove and discard all the used O-ring and sealing washers.

10. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor.

1. Install the new sealing washers onto the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .



2. Install the A/C compressor hose to the A/C compressor.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

3. Install the A/C compressor hose bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).




4. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
5. Install the new O-ring seal to the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
6. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.



7. Install the A/C compressor hose nut (2) to the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).




8. Install the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
9. Install the A/C compressor hose nut (1) to the condenser.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

10. Install the left front fender upper diagonal brace. Refer to Front Fender Upper Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
11. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L.
12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
13. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .

Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.8L

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
2. Remove the left front fender upper diagonal brace. Refer to Front Fender Upper Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.



4. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (1).
5. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the condenser.



6. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (2).
7. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
8. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.



9. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the A/C compressor.

Important: Remove and discard all the used O-ring and sealing washers.

10. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor.

1. Install new sealing washers onto the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .



2. Install the A/C compressor hose to the A/C compressor.




Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the A/C compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).




4. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
5. Install the new O-ring seal to the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
6. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.



7. Install the A/C compressor hose nut (2) to the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).




8. Install the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
9. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the condenser.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

10. Install the left front fender upper diagonal brace. Refer to Front Fender Upper Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
11. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
13. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
