Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.1L or
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.8L.
- Loosen the accumulator hose nut (2) from the accumulator.
- Disconnect the accumulator hose from the accumulator.
- Remove the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut (1) from the accumulator.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
- Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
- Remove the accumulator bracket bolt clamp.
- Remove the accumulator from the mounting bracket.
Installation Procedure
- If replacing the accumulator, add refrigerant oil to the accumulator. Refer to
Refrigerant System Capacities
for system capacity information.
- Install the accumulator to the mounting bracket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt clamp.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 4 N·m (36 lb in).
- Install the accumulator.
- Install the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 4 N·m (36 lb in).
- Install the new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the accumulator hose. Refer to
O-Ring Replacement
.
- Connect the accumulator hose onto the accumulator.
- Tighten the accumulator hose nut (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Connect the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
- Install the A/C compressor hose nut (1) onto the accumulator.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.1L or
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.8L.
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fittings of the component usingJ 39400-A
.
