Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. If the fuse in the jumper opens when you perform this test, the signal circuit is shorted to voltage.

  2. If the fuse in the jumper opens when you perform this test, the signal circuit is shorted to voltage.

DEFINITION: The MODE switch, RESET switch, and/or E/M switch is inoperative.

Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the FEIC RESET parameter in the IPC data list.

Does the FEIC RESET parameter display Off?

Go to Step 3

  1. Press the RESET switch.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the FEIC RESET parameter.

Does the FEIC RESET parameter display On?

Go to Step 4

With a scan tool, observe the FEIC MODE parameter.

Does the FEIC MODE parameter display Off?

Go to Step 5

  1. Press the MODE switch.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the FEIC MODE parameter.

Does the FEIC MODE parameter display On?

Go to Step 6

With a scan tool, observe the English/Metric State parameter.

Press the E/M switch.

Does the English/Metric State parameter switch between English and Metric?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch(s).
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the FEIC RESET and FEIC MODE parameter.

Does the FEIC RESET and FEIC MODE parameter display Off?

Go to Step 15

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch(s).
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the DIC Set/reset switch signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the FEIC RESET parameter.

Does the FEIC RESET parameter display On?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch(s).
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the DIC select menu switch signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the DIC toggle between modes when the ground is applied and removed?

Go to Step 15

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch(s).
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the metric conversion switch signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the DIC toggle between English and Metric when the ground is applied and removed?

Go to Step 11

Test the ground circuit of the DIC switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the DIC set/reset switch signal or DIC menu select circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the DIC set/reset switch signal circuit for an open, a high resistance, or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
