Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

1. Install a scan tool.
2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
3. With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release to open.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 8

1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
2. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid release switch signal and ground circuits.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 12

1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit and a good ground.
3. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

1. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal and ground circuits.
2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 11

1. Remove the rear compartment lid release relay.
2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive circuit and the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the battery positive circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear compartment lid release relay.

Replace the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Switch Replacement .
