Open the rear compartment.

Does the rear compartment courtesy lamp operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Place the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer switch in the DOME position.

Do the courtesy lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Courtesy Lamps Inoperative

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment courtesy lamp.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the supply voltage circuit and the rear compartment lamp control circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Connect a test lamp between the supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp and ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between battery positive voltage and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Connect a fused jumper between the ground circuit and the trunk ajar switch signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  2. Using a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage, probe the rear compartment control circuit of the rear compartment lamp.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections at the bulb of the rear compartment courtesy lamp. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the high resistance or an open in the trunk ajar switch signal circuit of the rear compartment ajar switch . Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the high resistance or an open in the supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment courtesy lamp . Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the high resistance or an open in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
