Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement 3.1L

Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Remove the coolant reservoir to allow access to the power steering pressure hose. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  3. Object Number: 515071  Size: SH
  4. Remove the pressure hose from the power steering pump.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the pressure hose from the retaining bracket on the engine.

  7. Object Number: 417973  Size: SH
  8. The power steering pressure hose is the lower hose at the power steering gear.
  9. Remove the pressure hose from the gear.


    Object Number: 469241  Size: SH
  10. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the clamps on the power steering gear.
  11. Remove the power steering pressure hose (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 469241  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering pressure hose (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the power steering pressure hose to the clamps on the power steering gear.

  3. Object Number: 417973  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering gear.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Install the power steering pressure hose to the retaining bracket on the engine.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Object Number: 515071  Size: SH
  9. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  11. Install the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  12. Fill the power steering system with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  14. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
  15. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
