Removal Procedure

Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.

Important: There is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if it is restricted.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. If plastic collar quick connect fittings are used, Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service for the correct service procedure.
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Disconnect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
  6. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.

  8. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
  9. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter from the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 32269  Size: SH
  1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-pipe fuel filter.
  2. Slide the in-pipe fuel filter into the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.
  3. Install the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Reinstall the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket retaining bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft)

  7. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  8. Connect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
  9. Tighten
    Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-pipe fuel filter from turning. Tighten the in-pipe fuel filter outlet nut to 30 N·m (22  lb ft).

  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
  12. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  13. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  14. 10.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    10.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    10.3. Turn the ignition switch the ON.
    10.4. Check for leaks.
