Exhaust Seal Replacement Exhaust Manifold Pipe Seal
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the exhaust manifold pipe nuts and springs from the exhaust manifold
studs.
Important: Suitably support the exhaust system where hangers are removed.
- Disconnect any hangers as necessary in order to reposition the exhaust
system.
- Reposition the exhaust system.
- Remove the exhaust manifold pipe seal.
- Inspect all of the components for the following:
• | Replace the components as necessary. |
Installation Procedure
- Install the exhaust manifold pipe seal.
- Return the exhaust system to the proper position.
- Connect any hangers.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the springs
and the exhaust manifold pipe nuts to the exhaust manifold pipe studs.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold pipe nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Remove the exhaust system support.
- Inspect the exhaust system for leaks and underbody contact.
- Lower the vehicle.
