Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 177170  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Loosen the brake cables at the equalizer (2).

  5. Object Number: 177190  Size: SH
  6. Remove the cable from the actuator lever.
  7. Remove the park brake return spring.

  8. Object Number: 177182  Size: SH
  9. Remove the cable from the park brake bracket (8).
  10. Remove the park brake bracket (8) from the support plate (2) bolts.
  11. Remove the park brake actuator (5).
  12. Remove the rear wheel hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  13. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  14. Remove the support plate (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the park brake support plate (2).
  2. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  3. Install the rear wheel hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  4. Install the park brake actuator (5).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the park brake bracket onto support plate (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake bracket bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb ft).

  8. Install the park brake return spring.
  9. Install the cable onto the park brake bracket.
  10. Install the cable onto the actuator lever.

  11. Object Number: 177170  Size: SH
  12. Tighten the nut on the equalizer in order to remove the slack in the cable.
  13. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  14. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
