Front Wheel Drive Shaft Seal Replacement Left
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Remove the left front tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels
- Remove the left engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front
End.
- Remove the left stabilizer shaft brackets from the left lower
control arm. Refer to
Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
in Front Suspension
- Remove the left tie rod end from the left steering knuckle. Refer
to
Steering Knuckle Replacement
in Front Suspension
- Remove the left lower ball joint from the left lower control arm.

- Disconnect the left drive axle from the transaxle. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
in
Wheel Driveshafts
- Secure the left drive axle to the left steering knuckle and strut.
- Use the Axle Boot Remover J 23129 with a slide hammer J 6125-1B
tool to pry out the seal (409). Do NOT damage the seal bore.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required

- Use a light wipe of transaxle fluid to lubricate the seal lip.
- Use the J 34115
to install a new seal (409).
- Install the J 37292-B
in the seal (409).
Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do NOT allow the shaft
splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface or damage to the seal
will occur.
- Connect the drive axle to the transaxle. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement

- Remove the J 37292-B
.
- Install the left lower ball joint to the left lower control arm.

- Install the left tie rod end to the left steering knuckle. Refer
to

- Install the left stabilizer shaft bracket to the left lower control
arm. Refer to

- Install the left engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
in Body Front
End.
- Install the left front tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the fluid level.
- Inspect for proper fluid level.
- Inspect for fluid leaks.
Front Wheel Drive Shaft Seal Replacement Right
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to

- Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to

- Remove the right stabilizer shaft brackets from the right lower

- Remove the right tie rod end from the right steering knuckle.

- Remove the right lower ball joint from the right lower control

Installation Procedure

- Use the J 29130
to
install a new seal.
- Install the J 37292-B
in the seal.

- Install the right lower ball joint to the right steering knuckle.

- Install the right stabilizer shaft bracket to the right lower

- Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to

- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the fluid level.
- Inspect for proper fluid level.
- Inspect for fluid leaks.
