Emblem/Nameplate Replacement BUICK

Repair Procedure

Tools Required

J 25070 Heat Gun


    Object Number: 514726  Size: SH

    Important: Use tape for protection and as a surface for alignments marks for alignment of the new emblem.

  1. Heat to remove the body side emblem using the J 25070 152 mm (6 inches) from surface.
  2. Apply heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.
  3. Remove the body side emblem using a plastic, flat-bladed tool.
  4. Remove all adhesive from body panel(s) using 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07501 or equivalent.
  5. Clean the body panel using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Apply emblem/name plate in an environment that is free from dust or other dirt that could come in contact with the sticky backing. This may cause improper adhesion.

  1. Clean the area where the emblem/name plate will be mounted.
  2. Mark the tape with the measurement for the proper location of the emblem.
  3. Heat the area using the J 25070 to a temperature of 27°- 41° C (80°-105° F).
  4. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is within 29°-32° C (85°-90° F). Place the emblem/name plate, with the adhesive side down, on a surface and use a heat gun to warm it.
  5. Peel the protective liner from the front end of the emblem/name plate. Do not touch the adhesive backing.

  6. Object Number: 514726  Size: SH
  7. Press the emblem/name plate to the panel surface while continuing to remove the backing.
  8. Hand roll the emblem/name plate to the panel to ensure complete adhesion.
  9. Inspect the emblem/name plate for bonding. Hand roll any loose ends.
  10. Remove the tape from the area around the emblem/name plate.

Emblem/Nameplate Replacement SHANGHAI-GM

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 25070 Heat Gun

  1. When replacing or repairing an emblem/nameplate do the following:
  2. 1.1. Use tape to protect the mounting surface during removal.
    1.2. Use tape for alignment marks for installation of the emblem/nameplate.

  3. To remove an emblem/nameplate, heat the emblem/nameplate using a J 25070
  4. Apply heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

    Notice: Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to prevent paint damage when removing an emblem/name plate.

  5. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to lift or remove the emblem/nameplate from the panel surface.
  6. Important: If tape is still intact on the molding or panel, do not remove the tape. Clean the tape and the mating surface with adhesive cleaner. Wipe the tape and the mating surface with a clean, lint free cloth. If the tape is damaged, continue with the replacement procedure.

  7. Apply the adhesive foam tape to the back of the emblem/nameplate and press the emblem/nameplate in place.
  8. When replacing, remove all adhesive from the body panel using a 3M™ scotch brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07501 or equivalent.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the area where the emblem/name plate will be installed.
  2. Use a lint free cloth and Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha or a (50/50 mixture) by volume of isopropyl alcohol and water in order to clean the area.

  3. Dry the area thoroughly.
  4. Mark the tape with the measurement for the proper location of the emblem.

  6. If the location of the emblem/nameplate has not been marked, apply tape and use the following dimensions:
  7. • Dimension (A) is 15 mm (.59 inche) from the top of the applique to the bottom of the letter "M".
    • Dimensions (B&C) are 14.7 mm ( 0.58 in). from the top of the applique to the bottom of the letters "I and G".
    • Dimension (D) is 16.5 mm (0.65 in). from the top of the applique to the bottom of the letters "S".
    • Dimension (E) is 35 mm ( 1.375 in). from the edge of the deck lid to the letter "S".
    • Dimension (F) is 10 mm ( 0.4 in). the distance between Shanghai and GM.
  8. Heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41°C (80-105°F).
  9. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F).
  10. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/name plate.
  11. Position the emblem/name plate to the location marks and press the emblem/name plate to the mounting surface.
  12. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/name plate in order to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  13. Remove the protective tape from the mounting surface.

  5. If the location of emblem/name plate has not been marked, apply tape and use the following dimensions:
  6. • Dimension (A) 35 mm (1.38 inches) from the edge of the rear compartment lid to the lower end of the " L".
    • Dimension (B) 16.5 mm (0.65 inches) from the bottom edge of the rear compartment lid to the bottom edge of the letter "L".
    • Dimension (C) 15.6 mm (0.61 inches) from the bottom edge of the rear compartment lid to the bottom edge of the letter G
  7. Heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41°C (80-105°F).
  8. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F).
  9. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/name plate.
  10. Position the emblem/name plate to the location marks and press the emblem/name plate to the mounting surface.
  11. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/name plate in order to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  12. Remove the protective tape from the mounting surface.

  1. When replacing or repairing an emblem/nameplate do the following:

  3. To remove an emblem/nameplate, heat the emblem/nameplate using a J 25070
  4. Apply heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

  5. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to lift or remove the emblem/nameplate from the panel surface.

  5. If the location of emblem/name plate has not been marked, apply tape and use the following dimensions:
  6. • Dimension (A) 35 mm (1 3/8 inches) from the right edge of the rear compartment lid to the end of the emblem/name plate.
    • Dimension (B) 16.5 mm (21/32 inches) from the top of the rear compartment lid applique to the bottom of the emblem/name plate.
  7. Heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41°C (80-105°F).
  8. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F).
  9. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/name plate.
  10. Position the emblem/name plate to the location marks and press the emblem/name plate to the mounting surface.
  11. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/name plate in order to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  12. Remove the protective tape from the mounting surface.

  7. Heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41°C (80-105°F).
  8. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F).
  9. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/name plate.
  10. Position the emblem/name plate to the location marks and press the emblem/name plate to the mounting surface.
  11. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/name plate in order to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  12. Remove the protective tape from the mounting surface.
