Basically, squeaks and rattles are caused by improperly controlled relative motion between components. There are three means to prevent the squeak or rattle.

    • Attach component securely so there is no relative motion during operation.
    • Separate components so there is no contact under operating conditions.
    • Insulate components so no sound occurs with relative motion between components. Low uniform friction surfaces can be provided to eliminate stick-slip motion.
