J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the trim cover and the two screws in the door pull handle.
  2. Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the door handle trim bezel which is held in place by three fasteners.
  3. Disconnect the power window electric connector, if equipped.
  4. Starting at the lower front, remove the lower trim panel using J 38778 to disengage the fasteners from the door inner panel.
  5. Remove the electrical connectors as equipped.
  6. Remove the trim panel.

Installation Procedure

  1. Important: Before installing the door trim panel to the door, the old trim panel retainers MUST be discarded and replaced with NEW retainers. If NEW retainers are not used, the trim panel will not be properly secured to the door.

  2. Install the new trim panel retainers to the trim panel.
  3. Install the electrical connectors as equipped.
  4. Position the trim on the door, top edge first.
  5. Press the trim panel to secure the fasteners into the door.
  6. Connect the power window switch.
  7. Install the door handle trim bezel.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the two screws and the trim cover in the door pull handle.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the pull handle screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
