CAMPAIGN:MIS-ADJUSTED TRANSMISSION SHIFT LINKAGE

SUBJECT: MIS-ADJUSTED TRANSMISSION SHIFT LINKAGE

MODELS AFFECTED: CERTAIN 1994 ROADMASTERS

IMPORTANT: THIS BULLETIN SUPPLEMENTS INFORMATION IN BULLETIN 94-C-4. DATED JANUARY, 19949 TO NEWLY REVISE THE SERVICE PROCEDURE SECTION OF THE BULLETIN.

SERVICE PROCEDURE (NEWLY REVISED):

INSPECTION

1. Remove transmission fluid level indicator and inspect the transmission fluid for signs of excessive heat (burnt smell and/or fluid color change to brown).

a. If excessive heat condition is observed, replace transmission assembly, then adjust the shift linkage per procedure in steps 2-9 below.

b. If no excessive heat condition is observed, reinstall fluid level indicator and adjust shift linkage per shift linkage adjustment procedure below.

SHIFT LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT

Refer to illustrations shown in this bulletin.

2. Place vehicle on hoist and the steering column range selector lever in the "N" (neutral) position.

IMPORTANT: VEHICLE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY ALL FOUR (4) TIRES OR BY JACK STANDS ON THE REAR AXLE TUBES SUCH THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION IS AT PROPER TRIM HEIGHT.

3. Loosen bolt, automatic transmission range selector rod swivel (816).

4. Make sure the rod assembly, automatic transmission range selector (820) will move freely in swivel, automatic transmission range selector rod (818). Tap on assembly with hammer to free rod and swivel assembly if needed.

5. Hang or attach a weight (approximately three (3) pounds) on the end of the steering column selector lever to bias the selector lever towards the "OD" (overdrive) position.

NOTICE: KENT-MOORE TOOL NUMBER J80929 DRIVER HANDLE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY THREE (3) POUNDS, AND MAY BE A POSSIBLE CHOICE.

6. Verify the transmission is still in "neutral".

7. Tighten bolt, automatic transmission range selector rod swivel (816) to 28 N.m (21 lb.ft.)

8. Remove weight and verify shift linkage and steering column range selector proper operation.

9. Install campaign identification label.
