General Motors of Canada Limited has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1994 Chevrolet Caprice, Buick Roadmaster and Cadillac Fleetwood model vehicles equipped with engine oil coolers (RPO KC4), and 5.7L (RPO LT1) or 4.3L (RPO L99) engines. The engine oil cooler inlet hose on these vehicles may have been installed too close to the steering gear. The hose may wear through if the slit in the protective sleeve on the hose faces and contacts die steering gear. This wear through could allow engine oil to leak onto the engine and could cause an engine compartment fire.
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers are to inspect the engine oil cooler inlet hose and, as necessary, reposition the hose to create the proper clearance and assure that the protective sleeve slit faces the proper direction. Also, if hose wear is evident, the hose will be replaced.
Involved are certain 1994 Chevrolet Caprice, Buick Roadmaster and Cadillac Fleetwood model vehicles equipped with engine oil coolers, and 5.7L or 4.3L engines and built within the following VIN breakpoints:
Year Model Plant Plant Code From Through 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Arlington "R" RRI00001 RR114477 1994 Buick Roadmaster Arlington "R" RR400001 RR400741 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood Arlington "R" RR700001 RR706749
All affected vehicles have been identified by the VIN listing provided to involved dealers with this bulletin. Any dealer not receiving a listing was not shipped any of the affected vehicles.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
