STEERING COLUMN NOISE VEHICLES WITH TILT STEERING

MODELS AFFECTED: 1984

Some 1984 Buick vehicles equipped with tilt steering columns may exhibit a rattling noise in the column. This noise may be from the lock bolt area and can be repaired by lubricating the lock bolt.

1. Remove steering wheel, shaft lock cover, shaft lock, canceling cam, canceling cam spring, signal switch, buzzer switch, lock cylinder and lock housing cover as covered in the 1984 Buick Chassis Service Manual Section 3B4.

2. Liberally coat exposed area of lock bolt with lithium base chassis grease as shown in illustration, then reassemble. Refer to the 1984 Buick Chassis Service Manual Section 3B4 for the reassembly procedure.
