INOPERATIVE SPEEDOMETER TRANSMISSION INFORMATION

VEHICLE AFFECTED: 1984 'G', 'B' And 'D' Models With 200-4R Transmission

You may encounter a condition where the plastic driven gear speedometer sleeve contacted the teeth of the drive gear. Wear from this condition as well as the driven gear shaft being loose in the sleeve may result in gear tooth clearance between the gears, resulting in an inoperative speedometer.

The correction of this condition is to replace the plastic speedometer sleeve with a steel sleeve, part no. 25519848. Inspect the drive and driven gears for any damage and replace if necessary.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
