DIGITAL CLUSTERS REPLACEMENT/SERVICE INFO.

IDENTIFICATION OF THE MANUFACTURING SOURCE FOR DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 SKYLARK AND SOMERSET

Identification of 1986 Skylark and Somerset Digital Instrument Cluster for exchange requests can be accomplished without removal of the instrument cluster trim plate.

The lens has a white trim line that surrounds the cluster. The positioning of this line at the top of the cluster in relation to the switch knobs is different between the AC Spark Plug and Yazaki clusters.

The following dimensions are the distance between the top of the fuel gage and gage knobs and the white line trim at the top of the cluster:

AC Spark Plug cluster: 1 - 2 m Yazaki cluster: 7 - 8 m

To identify between lst design and 2nd design AC Spark Plug clusters, a knob will still have to be removed and checked. Please note this information on the last two pages of the Service Bulletin 86-8-3, dated November 1985.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
