DURING THE PAST MONTH, BUICK TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT HAS CONDUCTED SEVERAL INVESTIGATIONS CONCERNING THE LOCATION (IN THE TRUNK) OF THE SPECIAL LUG NUTS USED WITH OPTION N91, CUSTOM LOCKING WIRE WHEEL COVERS.
IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE LUG NUTS ARE OFTEN NOT CLEARLY VISIBLE ON THE FLOOR OF THE TRUNK. ON SOME OCCASIONS, THE LUG NUTS WERE FOUND LOCATED IN THE RIGHT OR LEFT QUARTER PANEL WELLS, IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL, OR BETWEEN THE REAR AXLE HUMP AND THE BACK SEAT. THE SPECIAL LUG NUTS ARE PACKAGED IN A PLASTIC PACKET WHICH CONTAINS TWELVE (12) LUG NUTS.
WHEN INSPECTING NEW BUICKS RECEIVED FROM THE CARRIER, BE CERTAIN TO INSPECT ALL AREAS OF THE TRUNK FOR THE LUG NUT PACKETS. IF AFTER A THOROUGH INPEC- TION THE LUG NUT PACKET IS FOUND TO BE MISSING, THIS IS TO BE NOTED ON ALL COPIES OF THE CARRIER'S DELIVERY RECEIPT. THE REQUIRED LUG NUT PACKET IS TO BE ORDERED FROM GENERAL MOTORS PARTS AND A 3098 TRANSPORTATION CLAIM IS TO BE SUBMITTED IN THE NORMAL MANNER.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
