ALCL PLUG INSTALLATION OF GROUNDING PLUG

MODELS AFFECTED: 1983 LV2, 5.0L V-8 Engines

Buick is installing a yellow grounding plug in the Computer Command Control ALCL connector located beneath the instrument panel on all cars equipped with the LV2, 5.0L V-8 engines. The purpose of this plug is to minimize cold weather spark plug fouling due to repeated starts during the manufacture and delivery of the vehicle. There will be a blue tag with a large "Notice" imprinted on the tag attached to the connector. The instructions state "Remove Attached Connector From Car Just Prior to Customer Delivery." See Illustration.

The plug grounds the Computer Command Control diagnostic test teminal which will cause the check engine light to flash code 12 whenever the ignition switch is turned on and will flash code 12 three times after the engine is started.

The plug is to be removed and discarded prior to a customer demonstration drive or a customer taking delivery of the car.

This plug will be installed during the period of cold weather when spark plug fouling is most likely to occur.

Please advise your sales and service staffs of this procedure.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
