W/60 MEMORY SEAT AG3 LOSS OF POSITION (NEW SERVICE MOTOR)

SUBJECT: MEMORY SEAT (AG3) - LOSS OF POSITION - NEW SERVICE MOTOR

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-90 PARK AVENUE/ULTRA MODELS

CONDITION:

---------- The memory seat may lose horizontal position on recall. Position loss is usually between 112 inch to 2 inches per recall. This may occur with the seat empty or occupied.

CAUSE:

------- Grease, used in the horizontal flexshaft cover to quiet audible noise, is leaking into the horizontal drive motor. This causes a distorted signal from the motor to the memory module. The distorted signal causes the memory module to stop horizontal recall motion early.

CORRECTION:

------------ Replace the outboard horizontal flexshaft and cover assembly, part number 20515599. This assembly must not be re-greased. The grease is not required for lubrication. Replace the horizontal drive motor, part number 20560003.

NOTE: If the service cable assembly is not available, the original flexshaft and cover may be re-used if they are thoroughly degreased. Reusing the old cover is not recommended as regular practice, since excessive horizontal operation noise may result.

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
