We have heard of a condition in Illinois where the validation number on the renewal sticker on the rear license plate may not be fully visible when the plate is installed in the license plate holder.
If this condition is noted, it can be repaired by either of the following methods:
1. Measure and cut a piece of 1/4" or 3/8" vacuum hose and install across bottom of license plate slot to raise license plate.
2. Center punch and drill new holes 3/8" below existing holes in top of plate. Attach plate using new holes.
Care should also be taken if the dealer is installing the renewal sticker on the plate. Install the sticker high enough to be fully visible in the normal plate position to avoid the above condition.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
