1. Door Ajar Indicator Inoperative
|
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) receives a discrete input from the respective jamb switch to indicate the status of the door. The BCM then communicates this status to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) via a serial data message. The IPC, upon receipt of
this serial data message, will illuminate the appropriate ajar message in the driver information center (DIC) and also send a serial data massage to the radio to activate the door ajar audible warning when the transmission is removed from PARK and the vehicle
speed is greater then 8 km/h (5 mph).
The door ajar switches supply a ground to the BCM when the door is open. Once the door is closed the door ajar switch opens removing the ground to the BCM. The BCM sends a signal to the IPC to turn on the door ajar light when a door is open.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, with all doors closed, observe the scan tool Driver Door Ajar Sw., Passenger Door Ajar Sw., Left Rear Door Ajar Sw. and Right Rear Door Ajar Sw. parameters while opening and closing each door. The parameters should change between Door Closed
and Door Ajar.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
- Test for less than 1.0 ohm between ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:
• | Driver door latch terminal 8 |
• | Left rear door latch terminal 6 |
• | Passenger door latch terminal 3 |
• | Right rear door latch terminal 3 |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
- Ignition ON, verify the appropriate scan tool Door Ajar Sw. parameter is Door Closed.
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
• | Driver door latch terminal 6 |
• | Left rear door latch terminal 4 |
• | Passenger door latch terminal 1 |
• | Right rear door latch terminal 1 |
- Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal and the ground circuit terminal listed below. Verify the scan tool Door Ajar Sw. parameter is Door Ajar.
• | Driver door latch terminal 6 and terminal 8 |
• | Left rear door latch terminal 4 and terminal 6 |
• | Passenger door latch terminal 1 and terminal 3 |
• | Right rear door latch terminal 1 and terminal 3 |
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door latch.
Component Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
- With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
• | Driver door latch terminal 6 and terminal 8. |
• | Left rear door latch terminal 4 and terminal 6. |
• | Passenger door latch terminal 1 and terminal 3. |
• | Right rear door latch terminal 1 and terminal 3. |
⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the door latch. |
- With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 2.0 ohms between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:
• | Driver door latch terminal 6 and terminal 8. |
• | Left rear door latch terminal 4 and terminal 6. |
• | Passenger door latch terminal 1 and terminal 3. |
• | Right rear door latch terminal 1 and terminal 3. |
⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the door latch. |

Circuit/System Description
The driver door module (DDM) and the passenger door module (PDM) receive a discreet input from the driver door ajar switch and the passenger door ajar switch respectively. Likewise, the body control module (BCM) receives a discrete input from both the
left and right rear door ajar switches. The door ajar switches are normally open when the doors are fully closed. When a door is open, the door ajar switch contacts close providing a path to ground. The driver information center (DIC) displays the appropriate
door open message when one of the doors is open. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from either the BCM, DDM or PDM indicating the door ajar status. If the message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h
(5 mph), a chime will sound as a reminder of the door ajar status.
