Subject: | Service VME - Wind Buffeting Noise with a Rear Window Down |
Models: | 2008 Buick Enclave |
2007 GMC Acadia |
2007 Saturn Outlook |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment about a helicopter type noise when a rear window is lowered. This is a common occurrence especially on vehicles with an SUV styled or boxy rear end. This is known as buffeting and it is a low frequency, high level wind noise perceived in a moving vehicle at certain speeds with a window open.
On a customer vehicle, buffeting with a rear window down can be minimized by dropping a front door glass by 1 to 2 inches. Accessory weather deflectors along the front door glass can also be effective in deflecting the airflow sufficiently from an open window to alleviate buffeting.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
