  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the brake warning indicator.

Does the brake warning indicator illuminate briefly during the bulb check?

Apply the park brake.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument cluster. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 14

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

Important: Perform the set up procedure for the IP.

  1. The brake warning indicator is inoperative from the brake fluid level indicator sensor.
  2. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator sensor.
  3. Connect a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the brake fluid level indicator sensor and a good ground.

Does the brake warning indicator illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the park brake indicator switch and a good ground.

Does the brake warning indicator illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections or a poor case ground at the park brake indicator switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
  3. Test the signal circuit of the park brake indicator switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the park brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement in Park Brake.
