DEFINITION: The courtesy/reading lamps do not activate when the following conditions exist:

    • The interior courtesy lights are on.
    • The windshield header courtesy/reading lamp switches are on.
    • The interior lamps override switch is on (the interior courtesy lights are enabled)

Did you perform the Lighting Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Operate all of the courtesy/reading lamps.

Do all of the courtesy/reading lamps work properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

Inspect the filament of the inoperative courtesy/reading lamps bulb(s).

Is there any bulb filament open?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 4

Test for an open in the supply voltage circuit to the inoperative courtesy/reading lamp.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 5

Test for an open in the ground(s) circuit to the inoperative courtesy/reading lamp.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Replace the courtesy/reading lamp. Refer to Overhead Console Reading Lamp and Bulb Replacement

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 8

Replace the inoperative courtesy/reading lamp bulb(s).

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall any connectors or components that were removed.
  3. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
